Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) Consumer Questions
1. Where do I apply? Wyoming uses a dual LIEAP/WAP application. To get a copy, call the LIEAP office at 1-800-246-4221 or go to http://dfsweb.state.wy.us and download a copy of the application.
2. How will I know whether I qualify? Your completed application form will be processed and if eligible you will receive a Weatherization Approval notice in the mail.
3. When will I be contacted by the Weatherization Agency in my region? This will vary. You will not be contacted right away after receiving the approval notice. You will be placed on a wait list based on a priority point system that our Federal regulations require us to follow. When your local weatherization office gets to your name on the wait list, they will attempt to contact you to schedule an energy audit of your home. If you don’t get called the first year you apply, you can reapply the next year. It is very important to inform the LIEAP office and/or Weatherization Agency if your phone number changes.
4. I received an approval notice 5 months ago and weatherization still has not called me. Why? Most likely, there are other families ahead of you on the wait list because they have more priority points. Federal regulations require that we serve those families with the highest number of priority points first. There will be instances when we may not get to your name before the year ends. For this reason, please submit a new application each program year.
5. I am a renter. Do I still qualify for weatherization? Yes. You will be asked to have your landlord complete a rental/landlord agreement form giving the weatherization agency permission to weatherize the home.
